John Mingers has recently made a powerful case for multimethodology (in other fields sometimes referred to as 'blicolage') and critical realism providing an effective way forwards in management science research (Mingers, J (2006) Realising Systems Thinking: Knowledge and Action in Management Science).
His argument is more philosophically heterdox than conventional Critical Realist thinking, and it would be interesting to know what others think about this.
I also sometimes worry that 'bricolage' is occasionally used to refer to slightly messy pluralistic approaches (i.e. more post-modern rather than critical realist) which don't necessarily contain the ontological critique which Mingers emphasises. However, if effective multimethodological projects can be shown to have efficacy, then there is a platform for deepening the engagement with the broader philosophy.
